What does the world look like for LGBTQ+ human rights?

Welcome to our 'OUT in the World' map

In these challenging times people often ask what is happening to the LGBTQ+ communities around the world.

Our new interactive map 'OUT in the World' can help you out whatever your needs - whether you are a tourist wanting to travel to new places and seek more information on LGBTQ+ rights in your destination, or you are a refugee entering a new country. Perhaps you are working on a research project, or you simply want to know more about a nation state and LGBTQ+ rights, if so, our map is for you. You can explore the map by scrolling towards the bottom of this page.

It highlights links to ReportOUT's country-wide 'OUT in' research projects, and selection of our YouTube videos, podcasts and training and campaigns. It is your helpful guide to queer rights across the globe. The map is a 'living' project and we will add new map pins and links and other content over time as new projects become available. Published April 2025.

Explore the map

Scroll around the map and zoom in on any country where there is a ReportOUT map pin and you will find information designated by content type for example a human rights report to the United Nations, a video, a podcast, a campaign or an article. Some regions on the map have high concentrations of map pins (such as Europe) so they don't always appear in view at far zoom distance - just zoom in further to view.  You can also move your point of reference around the world so, for example, you can move to a Pacific-centred point of view instead of an Atlantic one. All country reports are downloadable, as are our nation state fact files. Links to our podcasts and videos will allow you to watch and listen to them.

What is on the map?

Are you organising an event or a project on LGBTQ+ rights in your nation state that we could partner with you on and add to our map?

If you are an LGBTQ+ organisation or activist from a nation state with an event that we could partner together on then our Events Team would love to hear from you:

We hope you find our map helpful. Please provide us with constructive feedback.

Other resources

Our OUT in the World Map is one of several resources that support the LGBTQ+ communities. Other organisations also provide maps and and statistics that monitor or document the performance of LGBTQ+ human rights across the world.  Two notable LGBTQ+ managed resources are the Equaldex Map and The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Intersex Association World Maps.
